The wall was built for the screens
Morning sun across a walnut butcher block. The white panel behind the desk was built to carry the screens and swallow the cables, and the shelf above it holds plants, a lit metal mountain range and a row of custom flashlights.
The white panel behind the desk is not the wall. It is 1x8 planks fastened to three vertical lengths of 2x6, wrapped in white vinyl and hung on two eighteen inch French cleats cut from another 2x6. It stands about two and a quarter inches proud of the plaster. Every mount bolts into the panel and not into the room, and the lag bolts that came with them are two and a half inches long, so washers keep them off the wall behind. The desk sits an inch or two in front, and the cables drop off the back of it.
The top is a walnut butcher block from Home Depot, eight feet long and twenty five inches deep. It came unfinished and was sealed with an oil based polyurethane. It rests on two IKEA Alex units, and nothing holds it down. It is heavy enough to stay where it was put unless somebody walks into it.
A 48 inch LG OLED sits in the middle with a 27 inch LG stood on its end on each side. The three replaced a 49 inch ultrawide, because too many games would not run at that width and everything runs at 16:9. At work the middle screen is four 24 inch screens, with a window snapped into each corner. For a film or a game the chair goes back. The leaves in the wallpaper do not quite meet across the three, because the side screens are 2560 pixels across and the middle one is 2160 down.
The shelf above carries plants, a lit metal mountain range and a row of flashlights. The collection ran past a hundred and fifty lights before it was cut back, and the ones left are custom builds from Fireflylite and from Emisar, kept for their emitters and for the shape of the beam. The mountains came from MetalPlex. The light in them did not: the original LEDs were dim and ran off batteries, so they came out for a denser strip on a WiFi controller.
Two Triangle Borea BR03 hang on wall brackets, one at each end of the panel, with a Monolith subwoofer for the low end and a NAD C700, a Schiit Bifrost 2 and a Schiit Jotunheim 2 down on the desk. The room is small enough that the speakers fill it even from behind the screens. The morning sun comes through shutters that open in four quadrants, or fold back to the sides altogether; they were in the house when it was bought. A grey ottoman sits on the floor at the left for a chair out of frame, and the cats have taken it.
