The desk faces the city

The flat is two bedrooms and two bathrooms, at nine hundred and thirty Australian dollars a week, which he calls a standard price for the suburb.

The desk is a Desky sit-stand, two metres wide, in the Jarrah Legno finish, and he has nothing he would change about it. A wooden shelf from Deskka lifts the main screen off the top and carries a speaker at each end.

The main screen is curved and wide. The one on the left stands on end, a 27 inch MSI IPS panel he calls cheap. The keyboard is a custom QK80 and the mouse is a Logitech MX Master 4, on a black mat.

An Elgato Stream Deck sits between the keyboard and the shelf. He uses it to launch apps and websites, and gives a whole page of it to Discord controls. The Audioengine A2 speakers run YouTube and nothing else, with no amplifier in the chain.

A paper lantern lamp stands at the right-hand end. It came from IKEA and cost about fifteen dollars. A fan sits at the other end, because the heat comes straight through the glass in summer. The chair is a Secretlab Titan XL, close to ten years old and still in good condition; he would take a Herman Miller if he were replacing it. Priced up, everything here comes to under fifteen thousand Australian dollars.
